In rural Corozal District, we met some sugar cane farmers (cañeros) who had already burned the field to rid it of poisonous snakes and spiders and cut the sugar cane. They were in the process of loading the sugar cane into the cane truck for delivery to the sugar factory one and a half-hour away.
